Pittsburgh, PA – February 17, 2025 – Union Railroad, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Transtar, LLC, achieved a major milestone last week, by obtaining AAR Quality Assurance Certification (M-1003) for its brand-new 20,000 sq. ft. railcar repair facility in Duquesne, PA.  This certification, effective December 3, 2024, includes Quality Assurance Activity Codes B25 and B26, reflects Union Railroad’s commitment to providing quality railcar repair services.

The Union Railroad facility is a full-service freight car repair shop with a storage capacity of 500 railcars, with rail connections to CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern, Canadian National, and Wheeling & Lake Erie.  The facility can perform heavy repairs onsite and provide mobile repair services to support the needs of the rail industry in the region.

Newly-constructed in 2024, the facility includes a 45-ton overhead crane, 100-ton floor jacks, 3-ton jib cranes, a side pusher, sill-straightening track, and overhead fall protection system.  These capabilities provide for a wide range of railcar repair services.
