Pittsburgh, PA – May 23, 2025 – Transtar, LLC (“Transtar”) is pleased to announce that for a second year, its Union Railroad has been awarded the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (“ASLRRA”) Eastern Region President’s Safety Award in the 250,000 to 500,000 Person Hours Worked category for calendar year 2024.
The President’s Safety Award, the most prestigious safety award in the short line railroad industry, is awarded to railroads with either a 0.0 accident frequency rate or the lowest accident frequency rate per person-hour of operation based on prior year’s Federal Railroad Administration (“FRA”) data. Union Railroad’s continued achievement reflects safety as a core value and an area of constant focus.
“We appreciate this recognition from the ASLRRA, and we extend our congratulations to each of our individual railroads for their daily contribution to safety,” said Scott Conner, Vice President – Operations for Transtar. “As we say on every morning’s conference call, we need to do our best to continue this focus day in and day out to continue to serve our customers and communities safely.”
The ASLRRA’s President’s Safety Awards are presented annually at the Association’s regional meetings. Award winners are selected based on the previous year’s performance data, as reported to the FRA.
Transtar’s Gary Railway and Union Railroad were awarded ASLRRA’s Jake Awards for achieving below-industry-average injury frequencies for 2024, and Transtar’s East Ohio Valley Railway, Texas and Northern Railway, and Lake Terminal Railroad received Jake Awards with Distinction for achieving zero reportable injuries in 2024.
