Pittsburgh, PA – Transtar, LLC (Transtar) is pleased to announce that its Gary Railway Company (GRW) was recently awarded, for the second year in a row, the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA)’s Eastern Region President’s Safety Award for the 250,000 to 500,000 Person Hours Worked category. The President’s Safety Award, the most prestigious safety award in the short line railroad industry, is awarded to railroads with either a 0.0 accident frequency rate or the lowest accident frequency rate per person-hour of operation based on prior year’s FRA data. “We are proud of our team’s efforts and look forward to building on this accomplishment,” said D.D. Webb, GRW’s General Superintendent. “We appreciate our team’s safety focus each day and the ASLRRA’s support of the rail industry.”
Additionally, all Transtar railroads were awarded ASLRRA’s Jake Awards for achieving below-industry-average injury frequencies for 2021, and Delray Connecting Railroad Company, Texas and Northern Railway Company, and The Lake Terminal Railroad Company received Jake Awards with Distinction for achieving zero reportable injuries in 2021. Transtar’s President, Jon Carnes, said of the awards: “We are extremely grateful for our employees’ focus on creating and maintaining a safe work environment and keeping themselves and others around them safe. We are nothing without our people and look forward to many more years of safe and efficient operations.”
